For Rod Malloy, storytelling is more than a profession. It’s a way of connecting people to deeper truths. As an award-winning producer and director, Rod has spent decades capturing powerful stories through film and media. His work has taken him across the country to places like the George Floyd memorial in Minneapolis, the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, Mount Rushmore, and Standing Rock. Each project has carried a consistent theme: shedding light on health, justice, and community issues while highlighting the resilience and hope found within them.
That perspective has carried into his involvement with the Planned Giving Forum of Greater Sacramento (PGFGS). Rod first attended PGFGS educational programs in 2017, drawn to the organization’s high-quality learning opportunities. In 2021, he deepened his commitment by joining the board of directors as Sponsorship Chair, guided into the role by longtime PGFGS leader John McIntyre.
In this role, Rod oversees sponsor stewardship, renewals, and new partner recruitment. He works closely with fellow board members to strengthen relationships with long-standing supporters and to build new ones. His efforts also extend into the Advancement Diversity Fellows program, where he has recorded testimonial film clips documenting Fellows’ journeys at the beginning and end of their fellowship year. These clips, currently in post-production, will serve as a lasting record of how education and mentorship can shape the next generation of fundraising leaders.
Rod is quick to point out that planned giving is about much more than finance. For him, it’s about trust and community. “High-quality education is imperative in these times,” he says. “PGFGS delivers excellent content year after year, helping professionals stay informed and giving donors the confidence to support nonprofits in meaningful ways.” By educating fundraising professionals, PGFGS strengthens ethical donor relationships, paving the way for transformational gifts that sustain missions and impact communities.
Beyond his PGFGS work, Rod continues to pursue creative and entrepreneurial ventures. He is the founder of Lights Camera Capital, a new venture opening soon in midtown Sacramento, and serves as Creative Director of Perspectives Media Group, LLC. His documentary projects, including ALS & You, UNamerican Justice, and Gold Diggin’ Dirt Baggers for Jesus, reflect his deep commitment to storytelling as a catalyst for change.
Outside of film and fundraising, Rod is a devoted baseball fan. You can often find him cheering for the Sacramento River Cats or keeping an eye on Major League Baseball’s moves in Sacramento.
Asked about his broader vision, Rod speaks of hope: “Hope comes to a community when its members’ needs are met by the sharing of resources. I’m hopeful Sacramento can become a community of hope, free of gun violence, safe for pedestrians and bicyclists, and supportive of all entrepreneurs and frontline workers in all industries.”
